The European Academy of Yuste Foundation announces 10 research and mobility grants for European studies, Carlos V European Award - Sofia Corradi, Mamma Erasmus
The European Academy of Yuste Foundation is offering a grants programme linked to the Carlos V European Award, aimed at researchers currently working on a doctoral thesis in any field of study. The theme of the grants is adapted to the profile of the person presented with the Award, and the theme of this edition’s grants call is, from a multidisciplinary perspective, “Peace and European values as a potential model for integration and progress in a global world”.In her speech at the Carlos V European Award presentation ceremony, Professor Sofia Corradi talked about her commitment to peace, saying this was always her ultimate aim through the introduction of the initiative that would go on to become the Erasmus Programme: “The Erasmus programme develops valuable qualities in students such as knowledge, personal development, maturity, creativity in problem solving, and autonomy in decision making: both for everyday life and for important decisions. These small but incredibly positive steps undoubtedly contribute to the promotion of an integrated and improved Europe, as well as peace between the members of our global human family [...]”.
The grants are aimed at researchers enrolled on a PhD programme and currently working on a doctoral thesis in History, Political Science, Economics, Law, or other disciplines within Human and Social Sciences, as well as other branches of science, on any theme related to the aim and orientation of the grants call. Working languages are English and Spanish.
Considering that one of the aims of the Foundation is to bring Europe and Extremadura together, the organisation invites researchers from Extremadura in particular to participate in the grants call: those born in the region, those with qualifications from the University of Extremadura, or candidates working on their PhD at the same university. The grants call has financial and institutional support from the Italian Government, which would like to pay homage to Professor Sofia Corradi, and also especially to the thirteen Erasmus students killed in the tragic road traffic accident in Tarragona in March 2016, seven of whom were Italians. As such researchers of Italian nationality and/or those studying their PhD in an Italian university are also encouraged to participate.
The value of the grant for each beneficiary is 2500 euros. Around June 2017 the European Academy of Yuste Foundation will also be organising a Doctoral Seminar in Contemporary European Multidisciplinary Studies, under the framework of the grants programme, in Yuste. There, the selected researchers will be able to present their works, which are also guaranteed to be published by academic publisher Peter Lang.
The deadline for candidates’ submissions will be two months from the date the grants call is published in the Official Journal of Extremadura (DOE). EUROPEAN GRANTS
The European Research and Mobility grants for European Studies, Carlos V European Award - Sofia Corradi -Mamma Erasmus, are intended to encourage study and research in the European field, and have been organised in collaboration with the SEGEI (Socio-Economic Governance and European Identity) Research Network, and the University of Extremadura, with additional support from the Regional Government of Extremadura and the Italian Government.
The selected researchers will go on to form part of the European ‘Alumni de Yuste’Network, set up to facilitate the exchange of projects and information between researchers specialising in European matters who have received one of the grants. There are now more than 70 researchers from different European, Latin American, and other Mediterranean countries’universities in the Network.

La Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste convoca 10 becas de investigación y movilidad en estudios europeos Premio Europeo Carlos V-Sofia Corradi, Mamma Erasmus
La Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste oferta un programa de becas vinculado al Premio Europeo Carlos V dirigidas a investigadores que se encuentren preparando una tesis doctoral en cualquier campo de estudio. La temática de estas becas se adapta en cada edición al perfil de la persona galardonada, y en esta convocatoria versa, desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar sobre la “Paz y valores europeos como posible modelo de integración y progreso en un mundo global”. En el discurso pronunciado por Sofia Corradi durante la ceremonia de entrega del Premio Europeo Carlos V, dejó claro su lucha a favor de la paz a través de una iniciativa que acabaría siendo el programa Erasmus: ”El programa Erasmus fomenta en cada estudiante cualidades tan preciosas como la sabiduría, el desarrollo personal, la madurez, la creatividad en la resolución de problemas y la autonomía en la adopción de decisiones, tanto en la vida cotidiana como en lo que atañe a decisiones importantes. Estos pequeños pasos tan positivos contribuyen indudablemente a la promoción de una Europa integrada y mejor, así como la paz entre los miembros de nuestra familia humana mundial […]”.
Estas becas están dirigidas a investigadores matriculados en un Doctorado y que se encuentren en la fase de preparación de una tesis doctoral en Historia, Ciencias Políticas, Economía, Derecho, y otras disciplinas de las Ciencias Humanas y Sociales, así como en otras ramas de la ciencia, sobre un tema relacionado con el objeto y orientación de la convocatoria. Las lenguas de trabajo son el inglés y español.
Considerando que entre los objetivos de la Fundación se encuentra acercar a Europa y Extremadura, se anima a participar especialmente a investigadores nacidos en esta región, titulados por la Universidad de Extremadura o que se encuentren cursando el doctorado en dicha universidad. La convocatoria cuenta con el apoyo económico e institucional del Gobierno de Italia, que quiere rendir homenaje a la profesora Sofia Corradi, y de manera muy especial a las trece estudiantes Erasmus fallecidas en el trágico accidente de circulación ocurrido en Tarragona en marzo de 2016, siete de las cuales eran de nacionalidad italiana, de ahí que también se anime a participar a investigadores de nacionalidad italiana y/o que estén cursando el doctorado en una universidad italiana.
La dotación económica destinada a cada beneficiario es de 2500 euros. La Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste organizará además, en el marco del programa de becas, un Seminario Doctoral de Estudios Plurisdisciplinares sobre la Europa Contemporánea en torno a junio de 2017 en Yuste donde los investigadores seleccionados podrán presentar sus trabajos, y garantizará también la publicación de los mismos en la editorial de publicaciones académicas y científicas Peter Lang.
El plazo de presentación de candidaturas será de dos meses contando desde la publicación de la convocatoria en el Diario Oficial de Extremadura. BECAS EUROPEAS
Las Becas Europeas de Investigación y Movilidad en Estudios Europeos Premio Europeo Carlos V-Sofia Corradi- Mamma Erasmus están destinadas a favorecer el estudio y la investigación en el ámbito europeo y cuentan con la colaboración de la Red de Investigación SEGEI (Socio-Economic Governance and European Identity), la Universidad de Extremadura y con el apoyo de la Junta de Extremadura y el Gobierno de Italia.
Los investigadores seleccionados pasarán a formar parte de la Red Europea ‘Alumni de Yuste’ constituida para facilitar el intercambio de proyectos e información entre los investigadores especialistas en temas europeos que han obtenido una de estas becas, y de la que actualmente forman parte más de 70 investigadores procedentes de varias universidades europeas, latinoamericanas y de países del Mediterráneo
